Here We Go Again! Cook County government officials are proposing ANOTHER Tax on beverages.

BREAKING: Chicago Tribune: Judge blocks Cook County soda pop tax

COALITION STATEMENT ON COOK COUNTY TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST THE TAX

“While the Can the Tax Coalition is not a party to the lawsuit, we strongly support the judge’s decision to delay implementation of Cook County’s flawed and unfair beverage tax. Ultimately, we hope the court weighs the mounting evidence that this tax is unworkable and throws the law out.

“Cook County working families have spoken and now a judge has spoken. It’s time for Commissioners to do the right thing and repeal this tax. They need to go in a new direction.”

On July 1, 2017, Cook County would have begun charging a new, penny-per-ounce beverage tax on more than 1,000 different products.

This tax will still add up fast. Hundreds of beverages – pop, sports drinks, juice drinks, ice teas, lemonades, even flavored waters and beverages with zero calories – will be hit with tax rates of as much as 30% to 67%. Prices will jump even higher when you add on the existing state and local sales taxes on beverages. Contact Your Cook County Commissioner and Tell Them to CAN THE TAX!
